Every couple gets stuck sometimes

Most couples who reach out aren’t looking for someone to declare a winner. They’re tired of having the same argument on repeat, feeling more like roommates than partners, or struggling to trust and feel close after a hard season — a betrayal, a new baby, a move, financial stress, or simply years of putting the relationship last. Couples therapy gives you a structured, neutral place to slow those patterns down, hear each other more clearly, and decide together what you want your relationship to look like.

What couples therapy looks like at Mend

Your clinician’s job is to support the relationship, not to take sides. Sessions focus on how the two of you interact — the cycles you get pulled into, the needs underneath the frustration, and the conversations that keep going sideways at home. You’ll practice communicating in ways that lower defensiveness, work on rebuilding trust and closeness where they’ve worn thin, and set shared goals you both have a voice in. Many couples are relieved to find that therapy isn’t about blame; it’s about understanding the pattern and learning to change it together. Couples come to us at many stages — newly committed and wanting a stronger foundation, long together and feeling distant, or working through a specific rupture — and the work adjusts to where you are. Individual therapy is also available at Mend if either of you wants support of your own alongside couples work.

Built for real schedules

Coordinating two calendars is hard enough without a drive across town. Mend offers couples therapy by telehealth, through secure, HIPAA-compliant video on SimplePractice, and in person with select clinicians at our Appleton and Mequon offices. You and your partner can join from home — even from two different locations when schedules demand it — anywhere in Wisconsin. Our hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm, and meeting from home often makes it easier to keep appointments consistently, which is where couples see change.
